What’s your Style Personality?

There are quizzes on top of quizzes that take your answers to questions about your fashion sense and style and push out a result that would be your style personality. But what is it? Well, let’s start off with making sure that we all know what style means and what makes it different from fashion. I hear fashion and style used interchangeably which is completely inappropriate.

“Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself.” - Oscar de la Renta

The late and great Oscar de la Renta said it best, “Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself.” This is the quintessential difference between fashion and style and why the words should not be used interchangeably. Someone can have style and not be fashionable and someone can be fashionable and not have style. Fashion incorporates the trends and theory around clothing and beauty. Style is fashion and your personality combined; this would be how you would decide to wear a trend adding your own flare to it.

So, where does a style personality fit in. Well, style personality would be taking the elements of fashion and style and meshing them together based on how you portray them in your everyday life. For example, I have two style personalities: Boho Chic and androgynous. You can see me take a feminine piece and make it masculine by adding masculine elements to my outfit: a tie, pocket square, or wingtips. When you see me and have a conversation with me you will see that my style fits my personality and that my ensemble speaks for me and gives you subtle and direct hints about my personality.
