Summer Proof Your Foundation Routine with These Primers

Summer is all about keeping things simple. I like to keep my style pretty simple and I like my makeup routine to be fuss free. I don’t know about y’all, but my combination skin easily looks like I have oily skin in the summer. Between sweating and being out in the sun, my skin produces oil in my t-zone like crazy and so by the end of the day I’m glowing and not in a good way.

Full disclosure: while I love a good primer and I understand the benefits of using them, I don’t always use them in the fall, winter, and spring months. I don’t really have a good reason why outside of the fact that I like to keep my makeup routine very simple with minimal steps to achieve a bomb everyday look. In the summer months though, I’m a primer girl because my makeup never stands a chance in the Georgia summer weather. Don’t be like me though, when you wear makeup, get you a good primer that’s appropriate for your skin type and what you want to achieve.

I have several primer favorites from department store to drug store brands. Make Up For Ever Smoothing Primer and Smashbox Photo Finish are my absolute favorite department store primers. These are my splurge primers for sure. My favorite everyday primers come from one of my favorite drugstore brands, e.l.f. Their primers are everything and they have been recently recognized as being the number one primer in America. And this is for good reason y’all, again, they are pretty legit.

Recently, I was sent several primers from e.l.f. that are pretty perfect for summer and have served as my go-to primers to summer proof my foundation routine including a sheet mask.

Let’s get into these masks:

Beauty Shield SPF 50 Skin Shielding Primer: This primer is packed with antioxidants including carrot seed oil and vitamin E to help fight against pollutants, dust, smoke, and UVA/UVB from the sun while blurring out fine lines and creating a great base for makeup application.

Oil Control Primer Mist: I love a good mist. Especially in the summer. This water-based primer mist helps control shine and oil to keep foundation looking matte. This spray is multi-purposeful too, you can also use it to set your foundation and throughout the day to refresh your ‘beat’.

Poreless Face Primer: This will keep your look matte and reduce the appearance of your pores, fine lines and shine. This gem is infused with Tea Tree, Vitamin A & E to keep your skin looking vibrant.

Prep & Hydrate Balm: This is one of my favorites because of the packaging. It’s a stick y’all! So, that means that you can pack this in your carry on with no problem. It helps to keep your skin hydrated while prepping your skin for your foundation. This balm can be used to moisturize you hands, elbows and knees as well.

Pore Refining Primer MaskFirst of all, this mask looks like a ton of fun and a way to pamper yourself before beating your face for a special day or night out. It helps to minimize the appearance of pores and brightens your skin.

  1. Nice post, Venus. I did a skin test at Sephora to find out my skin type, which is combination. This had definitely altered my foundation choices for the Summer. I use a primer and powder. I will definitely check out your Summer recommendations. Thanks for the awesome advice!
