There is nothing like rocking your favorite pair of jeans and a white t-shirt as your outfit palette on the weekend. Often, I’d add a blazer on top of my white t-shirt with accessories or a cardigan like I did below. I round out the look with a pair of shoes that fit the occasion: if I am running errands I wear flats and if I am going to an event or meeting I may throw on a pair of heels. I was reading one of my favorite fashion publications (I can’t remember which!) and it talked about incorporating your “third piece” to make a basic outfit pop.
Now I naturally do this with all of my outfits, especially my everyday outfits because I always feel that I am missing “that one thing” when I don’t. The article talked about how this third (and at times fourth) item can make an outfit and pull a look together completely. For example, you see a girl wearing a white t-shirt, jeans and a blazer adorned with key and staple accessories standing next to someone wearing a similar look, but the girl who added those final finishing touches is slaying her outfit completely and you really can’t put your finger on why. That is the idea of the “third piece” and can turn any ordinary outfit into amaze-ness.
Below my “third piece” is definitely my cardigan. You can identify the “third piece” by the item that pulls a look together. Without my cardigan (even with my hat, shoes, scarf and bracelet) the outfit would seem a bit incomplete. Adding the hat, the scarf and bracelet just adds a bit of my personality to it, which I feel should be in any outfit that you wear. These items are what make you who you are and being able to express that in your look is the quintessential idea of style. Who wants to look like a mannequin?
