The utilitarian trend is picking up this season from staple everyday pieces to outfit accents. With inspiration from military uniforms, the utilitarian trend features sharp, tailored, and simple cuts and designs with embellishments and hardware to match. This makes layering this trend and making it your own easy. Although, at first sound many may feel intimidated by the utilitarian trend because it can come off more masculine than feminine, or better yet, you may immediately think of fatigues. While all of these things are generally true, they are certainly not the rule. As you will see in the round up below, utilitarian items can be feminine and NOT fatigue. Generally speaking, the utilitarian trend is characterized by olives, tans, blacks and whites, but that doesn’t mean you can’t deviate slightly with the color palette to make this trend work for you. More so than the color of your utilitarian item is the cut, shape and detail that are key.
In my own wardrobe, I have incorporated the trend with booties, a parka, cargo pant, blazer, and sunglasses so it is pretty safe to say that this is one trend that I gravitate to and have for years. I love this trend because it does have an element of masculinity that fits my fashion personality.
