Outside of a breakout, there’s nothing more annoying that messes up your beat than dark circles and puffy eyes. Sometimes concealer just don’t cut it or you don’t want to have to wear concealer everyday.
So, what causes dark circles and puffy eyes?
To start, keep in mind that the skin around your eyes is the thinnest and therefore, most sensitive. Dietary, environmental, and product changes that irritate your skin can be seen easily with the skin around your eyes. Puffy eyes usually indicates food or environmental allergies, water retention, or simply being rough with the skin around your eyes by pulling and tugging your skin there. Dark circles are caused by a lack of sleep, aging, genetics, and hyper pigmentation that occurs from tugging and rubbing.
How do I get rid of them?
Of course, it depends on the cause. For puffy eyes, if the cause is food or environmental allergies, try to figure out what you’re allergic to and avoid it. If you notice that it’s because of water retention (you’re holding water in other areas), minimize your salt in take. If it’s tugging and pulling that is creating the issue, then stop pulling and tugging on your eyes! To assist in reducing your puffiness, you can try cool compress, cool tea bags, or eye creams with vitamin C and caffeine to reduce puffiness and anise oil and vitamin E to moisturize and repair your puffiness.
For dark circles, another method, while similar, has to come into play. If your dark circles are caused by a lack of sleep, then try to get more sleep, of course. If your dark circles are caused from tugging and rubbing, please stop. If aging or genetics is your issue, I’m sorry boo, you can’t remedy dark circles that easy, but we can reduce their appearance. Look for products that promotes collagen production like lupin, brightens your skin like bearberry and vitamin C, and tones and fights free radicals like ginkgo biloba and vitamin E.
