Get the Look: Valentine’s Day

When dressing for a holiday like Valentine’s Day it is easy to get caught up in the gimmicks.  Hearts, anyone? Pink and red combos, anyone? While I think those looks are truly appropriate for the occasion, I am also a fan of maintaining your style personality while incorporating something that would be appropriate for a holiday like, Valentine’s Day.

How to Wear It

Now, I’m not going to lie, the first thing I thought about when I was coming up with this Valentine’s Day look is, “What do I have in my closet that’s red or pink?” When I realized that I did not have much red or pink in my wardrobe, instead of keeping myself boxed in, I decided to ‘shop’ my closet and use the items that I had to make a perfect Valentine’s Day outfit for a night or day date.

I paired a pair of faux leather leggings with a faux leather and lace peplum shirt, cut-out booties, polka dot blazer, and a clutch that I picked up several years ago in Cancun.

Repurpose Tip: When appropriate and when it works, I love to play with how to wear certain items of my outfit to make it look different.  The peplum shirt that I’m wearing is actually backwards; the lace is supposed to be on the back.  I wanted to showcase the lace and the faux leather to break up the look a bit and I wanted to add a bit of sex appeal to the look in honor of Valentine’s Day.  Had I not told you, you wouldn’t have known and that’s the point.  Play with your pieces a bit to rejuvenate it and make it appropriate for the occasion.

What I Wore: Blazer: Target (similar), Top: Forever 21 (similar), Leggings: H&M (similar), Shoes: JustFab, Clutch: Cancun markets
