Summer is all about having sun-kissed skin. When you have a healthy tan, it makes you have the appearance of glowing from within. If you have trouble tanning or just want to refine your sun-kissed skin, a good foundation, bronzer, and highlight combo is the way to go!
Bronzer is very much like foundation, in that you have to try a couple on from different brands to get the perfect one for your complexion. The idea here is to enhance what you have naturally and give you a subtle glow. If you end up looking ‘dirty’ or cake-y, then my dear, you have it all wrong! One of my personal favorites is the Laura Mercier Baked Blush Bronze Compact. Because it is baked, it has a light and airy consistency and gives you the feeling that you have nothing on. When layering on top of foundation or tinted moisturizer in the summer, the idea is to have as many light layers as you can to achieve the look that you desire. After all, who wants to feel like they are melting while trying to have fierce makeup in the summer? Not I!
I am a huge fan of Laura Mercier’s tinted moisturizer for summer (and year-round) as well. In fact, I am completely out and need to re-up on this fave ASAP to get ready for summer. As I mentioned above, having a good foundation to create the base layer for your summer glow is important and this light, but build-able tinted moisturizer is my go to. Once you have your foundation and bronzer set, using an illuminator or highlight can add another layer of glow to your look.
Laura Mercier has a face illuminator that is build-able and gives you the right amount of highlight to the bridge of your nose, high points of your cheek, cupids bow and brow bone to finish off your glow. Another alternative to the Laura Mercier illuminator would be Nars’ blush in Orgasm; this is becoming a classic, yet versatile blush that you can use as a blush or as a highlight – double duty versatility? I like it!
Once I am done with the basic palette of my face with my bronzer, foundation (tinted moisturizer), and face illuminator, I like to finish off with shaping my brows, adding mascara, and popping on a warm nude lip. This gives you a neutral, but healthy glow make-up look that makes you ready for summer!
